Why Use Magnetic Level Gauges?

Magnetic Level Gauges (MLGs) are a robust, low-maintenance solution for industrial liquid level measurement. Their reliable, mechanical operation eliminates many challenges associated with electronic or invasive systems. Here’s why MLGs are the superior choice:

Maintenance-Free and Cost-Effective

  • No Calibration Needed: Operates without recalibration, simplifying maintenance and reducing downtime.

  • Corrosion-Resistant Materials: Constructed from materials like Stainless Steel, Titanium, Hastelloy, and PTFE coatings, ensuring long-term durability even with aggressive or corrosive media.

  • Energy-Free Operation: Requires no external power source for basic level indication, reducing operating costs.

Continuous and Clear Visibility

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Provides uninterrupted level indication with bright, contrasting visual markers for easy reading.

  • Long-Distance Readability: High-contrast colors ensure visibility from up to 200 feet, even in poor lighting conditions.

  • Scale Durability: Laser-etched or engraved scales resist wear and environmental damage, ensuring long-lasting clarity.

Mechanical Reliability

  • Non-Electronic Operation: MLGs function entirely on mechanical principles, using a magnetically coupled float system. No electronics, guidewires, or powered components are required, making them inherently reliable and resistant to failure.

  • No Internal Tank Components: All measurement components are housed externally, with no intrusion into the tank or process fluid, ensuring safe, maintenance-free operation.

Enhanced Safety

  • Sealed and Isolated: The chamber and indicator are completely sealed, preventing leaks, emissions, or contamination from hazardous or corrosive fluids.

  • Durable in Harsh Conditions: Handles extreme pressures (up to ANSI Class 900) and temperatures (up to 450°C) without compromising safety or performance.

  • Shatterproof Alternative: Replaces fragile sight glasses, minimizing risk to personnel and equipment.

Principle of Operation

How It Works

  1. Float Mechanism:

    • A sealed float containing a permanent magnetic assembly is designed to remain buoyant in the process liquid, submerged approximately 70-80% based on the fluid's specific gravity.

    • As the liquid level rises or falls, the float moves correspondingly within the external chamber.

  2. Magnetic Coupling:

    • The float’s magnetic field is coupled to the external visual indicator mounted on the chamber.

    • This ensures the indicator moves synchronously with the float, providing an accurate representation of the liquid level without the need for direct process contact.

  3. Visual Indication:

    • The indicator is comprised of rotating flags or rollers in contrasting colors, which flip to reflect the liquid and vapor levels.

    • The movement provides an intuitive, real-time visual display of the liquid level.
